Vancouver police break laws policing poor: report

I've heard horror story after horror story about the VPD and their practices. Until now I've taken things with a couple of grains of salt. Perhaps a few less now. This report makes a lot of interesting allegations against the cops here in our fine city. Especially in relation to the Downtown East Side (Notoriously Canada's poorest Postal Code). I'm Some of these allegations may (and probably are) exaggerated or even untrue due to the nature and disposition (drug addicts and alcoholics) of a lot of the people reporting. However, there are enough of them to warrant at least a third, impartial party's investigation.

If the police have truly been treating people the way it is purported they are, no wonder this has happened. If the cops don't care it's kind of hard to get things done.

How nice. More news on a BC connection to the dickhead sniper.

Accused Sniper Linked to Vancouver

Oct 28, 2002 by Mike Browne in Downers | 1 Comment
The Vancouver Sun is reporting that Muhammad told a Bellingham man he was 'heading to Vancouver'. Apparently he was interested in becoming a Canadian citizen. Sorry, but I think the U.S can keep him.

What is it about the Pacific Northwest's propensity for breeding serial killers? We've had some crazies come from here (Clifford Olson and now Robert Picton) and Washington State (Ted Bundy and the Green River Killer) just below us. Perhaps it's the dreary winter weather - rainy and overcast. There's a high suicide rate here as well. How uplifting.

On Connie Chung Tonight

Oct 22, 2002 by Mike Browne in Downers | Add comment

As serial killers seem to be all the rage in the media again, Connie Chung is tackling the Canadian case of Paul Bernardo and ex-wife Karla Homolka (who is soon to be realesed) tonight. This story still causes a great deal of anger among Canadians. Ontario lived in fear when Bernardo was on the prowl. It should be interesting to see it from the American media's perspective tonight on CNN.

Sniper Killings in the Eastern US

These sniper kilings are creating a frenzy that we've seen before. Anyone who lived through it can't forget the Son of Sam (David Berkowitz) killings in NYC during 1976. David Berkowitz has his own creepy website now.

Tarot card found after teen shot

This morning in The Globe and Mail: Breaking News there seems to be a break in the Washington sniper case. A Tarot card with, "Dear policeman, I am God," printed on it. A God complex just like the guy in the movie Frailty which starred was directed by hammy-over-actor Bill Paxton.

Pickton to face additional charges

2 more makes 13. Good Lord this man is sick. If he did half as much as he's been charged for that would be hideous. This is too insane for words.

See also here.

UPDATE: Make that 4 more for a total of 15.

And one was a guy.

Even Reuters is reporting on this as well as the Guardian in the UK and CNN.

Like Carol said, "What nice neighbours we have."

I took Mom and Dad by the farm on Saturday. The excavation is extreme. It looks like just about every piece of topsoil has been turned over on the property.

I know that there's a subdivision on land that used to be owned by the Picktons and sold only a few years ago. Some people believe that there are bodies buried over there as well. I wonder if the police are going to dig under those homes. The poor folks in that area must be overjoyed at property values as well as all the media coverage. It just keeps getting better.
