Sunset from Space

Pilar (the boss lady) sent me this picture:

Wow!

I'm not sure if it's a Photoshop job or not but here's the text that came with the picture:
"I thought this was a cool picture.

This photo was taken via satellite, on a cloudless day. Note how the lights
are already on in Holland, Paris, and Barcelona, and how it's still daylight
in London, Lisbon, and Madrid. The sun is still shining on the Straight of
Gibraltar, and the Mediterranean Sea is already in darkness.

In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean you can see the Azores Islands; below
them to the right are the Madeira Islands; a bit below are the Canary
Islands; and further south, close to the farthest western point of Africa,
the Cape Verde Islands.

The Sahara is huge and can be seen clearly both during daytime and
nighttime. To the left, on top, is Greenland, totally frozen."

Sarah Kozer, 29, starred in movies such as "Novices in Knots" and "Hogtied," and a foot-fetish film "Dirty Soled Dolls," according to the Web site The Smoking Gun. Looks like she's more of a ho' than we thought. Anyone who would get their feet dirty for pervs to pleasure themselves over has got to suffer from a sever lack of morals.

Joe Millionaire, I hope you pick her so you can get a big surprise as well. You were already in the bushes with her for God's sake.

Ron and Fez ... Gone?

Jan 28, 2003 by Mike Browne in Downers | 3 Comments
I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. Ron and Fez are off the air in NYC and can only be heard on WJFK in Washington DC. I loved that show and am sad to see it go. I sure hope they'll be back or all us fans will get our fix via the web somehow (that is if one of the DC fans will hook us up). Here's the text of an email last night from the guys that was posted on RonFez.net:
"To all our New York buddies:

We just wanted to thank you for all the support and friendship that you have given us over the past several years.

The Ron and Fez Show will no longer be on WNEW. We would have liked to have done a 'see ya' show to thank you all, but such is the radio business. The show will still be on the air on WJFK in Washington, DC.

Nobody has enjoyed being on the air in New York as much as Ron and Fez. It has been an honor to spend our overnights, middays, evenings, afternoons, middays again and finally back to evenings with you. No matter where they put us, we always had fun and we always tried our best to make sure you had fun too.

Who knows what the future may bring, but the way this business works, we may be back in your radios before you know it.

You can stay in contact with us through RonFez.net or e-mail us at RonandFez@aol.com.

Thank you so much for all the laughs, cigars and Oreos.

Seeeee ya!

CanCon the Bad and Not-so-Bad

Jan 16, 2003 by Mike Browne in Movies and TV | 4 Comments
Here in Canada any radio or TV station has to play it's fair share of Canadian Content (CanCon) to "preserve our culture" from being entirely absorbed by our oh so boisterous neighbour to the South. Some people believe that many Canadian musicians who have made brief (or not-so-brief) appearances on the Canadian charts don't have any true talent but are examples of the principal of CanCon gone wrong to fill a slot and meet a quota.

To check out some of the CanCon one reviewer loves to hate go and check out Craptastic: CanCon Hall of Shame: Dreck. I disagree with the reviewer on a large number of the choices. Yes, I have a soft spot for bands like Trooper, The Northern Pikes, Platinum Blonde, 54-40 and, of course, The Tragically Hip. Some of these bands have also successfully crossed the border to the South and beyond becoming International stars. Bryan Adams for example (not that I like him mind you). There are others like Rita MacNeil (sadly a Nova Scotian), Tu, Men Without Hats, Rene Simard and Dalbello who I'd love to deport to Zanzibar and strip of their citizenship. The crud they've spewed hurts my ears.

Seems to me like the person who reviewed this music may be a failed Canadian musician who resents all those who made it. There's no accounting for personal taste. Atrocities like K.D. Lang (Sunny Jim is obviously from Alberta and not a beef farmer) and Doug and the Slugs made the "At Least They Tried" list. LOL! One of Doug's Slugs used to live in my pal Rich's basement suite in Coquitlam. Too Bad!

All slagging aside (both mine and Sunny Jim's) it makes for some interesting reading and brings back a flood of musical memories both pleasant and disturbing. Thanks Jim! I may not agree with everything you said, but your site rocks!

User Not Found is a weblog dedicated to dealing with the death of online friends.

Some people that you deal with online you never actually meet. I have played online games for about 4 years voraciously and as a result I have made some online-friends whom I have never met. I may not ever meet any of these people, but I feel they are my friends. Albeit not close like F2F "face-to-face". A friend of ours died of cancer last year. I called him and spoke to him about two weeks before he died. Just the act of picking up the phone made a huge difference in the level of our friendship. Joe a.k.a. Samson became much more real to me. When he finally did succumb to his disease people in our gaming community were stunned. I did a little memorial site for him and his family. I think it helped. I got a lot of email about it and still talk to Laurie, Joe's partner, once in a while.

I can't wait to see Joe Millionaire on FOX. A bunch of gold digging ho-bags making asses of themselves falling over each other to get at money that ain't there. Apparently Joe can't even afford a $2.50 toll. I wonder how it's going to turn out? Let me see if I can make a prediction. At the end of the series Joe's lack o' cash will be revealed to the girl who gets chosen. She'll say, "The money isn't important. I'm not that shallow. I truly love him." They will walk off into the sunset together not to be heard from until 3 months later we find out she has left Joe for a Beverley Hills Plastic Surgeon who has offered her fake boobs, a new Lexus and a full length sable coat.

Things may take another twist according to this article:
