Another Space Shuttle Disaster

Feb 01, 2003 by Mike Browne in Downers
Space shuttle blows up over Texas. I couldn't believe this when I heard it this morning. It was happening again. I still remmeber the Challenger exploding on take off very well. This shuttle was 16 minutes away from landing landing and, apparently, just broke up. Another seven astronauts are presumed dead. Among them was Ilan Ramon the first Isreali to go into space. Another sad day.

My sister-in-law, Cathy, lives in Dallas and heard the explosion. She said her windows shook and that she thought it was a plane taking off. She said it was scary.

What the heck happened?

This tragedy is not only felt by the U.S., Israel and India, but I'm sure worldwide, with the exception of Sadam, Osama, and the other fascist loonies out there. The irony is that it takes a situation like this for those in charge to take a closer look at what they are doing and why they are doing it. This morning, the husbands, wives, lovers, children and parents of these explorers and scientists are without a loved one. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to them, and may they discover some sense of peace and redemption in the coming together that this is bound to cause.
