Check out Will Life Be Worth Living In 2,000AD? Boy were they out to lunch on a lot of their predictions. The line "Mail and newspapers will be reproduced instantly anywhere in the world by facsimile." pretty much predicts the internet, but other than that I'm not sure about the science in this article. Are things really so easy that people "die from sheer boredom?" I don't think so. However, I would like a 24 hour work week (but more cash). And the bit about refrigerted garbage is right on ... we seem to have a lot of that. Anyone up for 20 pounds of frozen blueberries?

Kitty Litter Cake

Aug 26, 2004 by Mike Browne in Hmmmmmm | 4 Comments
Grace sent the following email forwarded to her from a friend along with photos:

On a recent visit to our veterinarian to get shots for our cat I found this recipe on the waiting room bulletin board. After recovering from hysterical laughter, I obtained a copy from the office staff so that my wife could make it, which she refused to do. I took it to work and gave the recipe to a lady at work who loves cats. The pictures show the results of her work, which looks like $#!% but it's actually quite tasty, so I decided to pass it along.

CAT LITTER CAKE RECIPE

1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 box of white cake mix
1 package white sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent

SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"
1 NEW cat-litter box
1 NEW cat-litter box liner
1 NEW pooper scooper

Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan.
Prepare pudding and chill.
Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor.
Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs.
Mix with a fork or shake in a jar.
Set aside.
When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl.
Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable.
Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points.
Repeat with three more rolls.
Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture.
Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.
Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted.
Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box.
Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box.
Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper.
Enjoy!

Another photo of the beautiful cake.

Dog Haiku

Aug 25, 2004 by Mike Browne in Hmmmmmm | 1 Comment
Not written by me. Found while surfing.

I love my master;
Thus I perfume myself with
This long-rotten squirrel.

I lie belly-up
In the sunshine, happier than
You ever will be.

Today I sniffed
Many dog assholes -- I celebrate
By kissing your face.

I sound the alarm!
Paperboy -- come to kill us all --
Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I sound the alarm!
Garbage man -- come to kill us all --
Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I lift my leg and
Whiz on each bush. Hello, Spot --
Sniff this and weep

How do I love thee?
The ways are numberless as
My hairs on the rug.

My human is home!
I am so ecstatic I have
Made a puddle.

I HATE my choke chain --
Look, world, they strangle me!
Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack!

Sleeping here, my chin
On your foot -- no greater bliss -- well,
Maybe catching rats.

Look in my eyes and
Deny it. No human could
Love you as much I do.

The cat is not all
Bad -- she fills the litter box
With Tootsie Rolls.

Dig under fence -- why?
Because it's there. Because it's
There. Because it's there.

I am your best friend,
Now, always, and especially
When you are eating.

You may call them fleas,
But they are far more -- I call
Them a vocation

My owners' mood is
Romantic -- I lie near their
Feet. I fart a big one.

The guy did an amazing job flying around the floor like Peter Pan (not that there's anything wrong with that). I have trouble doing a somersault.

All kidding aside, not only did Kyle Shewfelt win the first gold medal of these Olympic game but also the first medal ever for a Canadian tumbler the event. Congrats Kyle.

Wow! You know your national Olympic program sucks huge eggs when you have to get excited about an athlete taking a silver on a trampoline. I'm not saying that being good at trampoline isn't an acrobatic feat to be admired. It's just kind of lame that we can't be good at the cool sports too. My trampolining experiences always involve falling off or getting my legs caught in the holes between the weird springy things on the edges.

Yo Mr Bear. It appears that you may have a drinking problem. Normal bears do not have 36 beers in one sitting. Not to mention the fact that they were stolen. The fact that the bear cops had to get involved and lure you with more beer and donuts is a definite red flag.

Perhaps you should seek some help. Look up Alcoholics Anonymous in the phone book, call and go to a meeting. Admitting that you have a problem at all is a big step, but it will be the best thing you've ever done for yourself.

Adopted and a Nigerian prince

Aug 16, 2004 by Mike Browne in Adoption | 5 Comments
No, no, no! Not me... That would really be a story.

I got an email as a result of a post in the comments section on my blog. It was from Marty Johnson, the guy in this story:
Mortgage broker discovers he's a prince

How cool is that? Very if you ask me. A note from a prince. The text of his letter was as follows:

I too am adopted and just as I began to search for my parents my birth mother found me. 10 months later we found my birth father in Nigeria (they met when he was a foreign student getting his master's degree in Iowa.)

To make a long story short, it has been a wonderful experience. I do have one word of advice. I hope that you are going into this without any great expectations one way another. Some people I've met have had great experiences (like me) while others have not. However, the discovery is well worth the effort either way. Closure comes in all kinds of packages.

By the way- if you want to hear more about my story, pick up the November issue of GQ magazine. They had an editor and a photographer travel with me when I met my father in Africa. (It was a pretty cool deal.

Or you can do a Google search with "Marty" "Johnson" "Prince" and "Eagan". Click on the first article that comes up.

Best of luck to you! I bookmarked your site and will check back often.

Oh Yeah- a suggestion. Tell us about what thought processes you are going through as you are putting this search together.

Well Marty, as far as any thought processes they are as follows. I have sent for the non-identiifying information from the province of Nova Scotia where I was born. As they are 3 years behind in requests I have about another 28 months to wait for that.

I'm leaving it up to the Gods really. I've put my name on all the reunion boards around the web including CANADopt.ca. I've made myself very easy to find as you can see. Heck, you found me. Anyway, I'm doubtful that I'm anything more than a pauper, but am honored that a Prince took the time to contact me. :)

Holy shit that a big ass burger!

"Where's the beef? It's at a Pennsylvania pub that serves the world's biggest burger - weighing in at NINE lip-smacking pounds! That's no whopper - you can actually get this meat monster for $23.95, (about $40.00 Canadian, including taxes and a beverage) loaded with all the "fixins": Two whole tomatoes, a half-head of lettuce, 12 slices of American cheese, a full cup of peppers, two entire onions, plus a river of mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard. And Americans wonder why they are getting fat..."

I tought this was a photoshop job at first. It may be, but if not there are more photos: Here's one of these insanely large burgers on the grill beside a normal sized burger. Here's a jackass trying to fit his big yap around one of these monstrosities. Finally here's a photo of the same jackass with his group of like-minded morons. They obviously have money to burn and no concern for a exploded stomach and internal bleeding.

I rub the lotion on my skin

Aug 12, 2004 by Mike Browne in Hmmmmmm | 11 Comments
The skin around my nose appears to be drying out. This started when we moved to our place three years ago and has steadily gotten worse since then. Maybe there's something weird with the water or my diet. It started before Atkins so I know it's not that. I'm not sure what's up but it's as irritating as all hell, let me tell you. I'm like some kind of old lady.Anyway, I've had to start using moisturizing lotion, cleaning solution and creams on my face. Frankly I'm kind of embarrased as I've never had problem skin before. Now when I'm going through my ritual every day in my head I hear Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs (one of my favourite films) saying:

"It rubs the lotion on its skin. It does this whenever it's told." (wav 42.8 kb)

and when I resisit Bill says:

"It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again." (wav 46.8 kb)

If I forget to put my stuff away I hear:

"Put the fucking lotion in the basket! arf!" (wav 37.3 kb)

I'm not sure why but I now have this weird urge to put on make up, jam my ding dong between my legs and dance around in front of a mirror listening to "this song" (mp3 2.51 mb).

Call the guys with the butterfly net and agent Clarice Starling. Mike is out of his mind.

According to this WSVN-TV - Miami - News story a 480 pound woman died after spending six years attached to her couch. Literally. She was still attached to the same couch when she passed away in the hospital after being moved there by emergency workers via a pick up truck. She was only 4' 10" tall. That's pretty much an average of 100 pounds per foot. I'm not intending to be overly cruel here, but is it this sort of case that coined the phrase "couch potato"? What a sad way to be remembered.

Markus Naslund's birthday greeting to me...

Aug 05, 2004 by Mike Browne in Go Canucks Go | 1 Comment
Wow is that ever nie. Markus Naslund took the time out to send me a birthday greeting (LOL! Right!). I'm on the Canucks' mailing list and get everything they send out. Here's the text of the letter:

Hi Mike,

My teammates and I would like to wish you a very Happy Birthday!

You know, you don't look a day older. Alright, enough of the birthday clichés.

So to celebrate your birthday, we would like to offer you a 10% discount* on official Canucks merchandise at Authentix**, the Official Team Store of the Vancouver Canucks. Just print this email and bring it to Authentix with picture ID to receive your discount. If you don't live near General Motors Place, you can always take advantage of our mail order department (canucks.com/authentix) - just be sure to mention your Inside Edge discount when ordering.

You have until Aug 12, 2004 to purchase your gift**.

Once again, we hope you have a great birthday!

Sincerely,

Markus Naslund

Wow! 10% off? You shouldn't have. I'm blushing. Tee hee!

Go Canucks! Go! Please let there be a season this year...

The new batmobile

Kind of a cool looking car, but not what I expected at all. The more I look at it the more I like it.

I'm 35 today

Aug 05, 2004 by Mike Browne in Hmmmmmm | 12 Comments
I'm halfway to 70 today. Yes, the big 35. *sigh* Happy birthday to me. I share a birthday with Neil Armstrong, astronaut, Loni Anderson, actress, Patrick Ewing, basketball player and strangely enough (and not at all surpising in the slightest for some odd reason) I share my day with The Elephant Man, Joseph Merrick.

A lot of things have happened on August 5th throughout the years.

For example:

In 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio, the first electric traffic light is installed. In 1962 Marilyn Monroe, actress was found dead.

Cat in the Kettle flash movie... I've seen it before but it's still funny.

Now this is scary

Google Search: visa 4356000000000000..435699999999 9999 and some of the returns you get are actual valid credit card numbers! Holy crapola. That can't be good. I feel sick to my stomach. It couldn't be this easy to thieve from people could it? Is my number out there somewhere waiting for a 15 year old with a rubber fetish to Google it? I sure hope not.

New Cinemas in Pitt Meadows

Aug 03, 2004 by Mike Browne in Movies and TV | 1 Comment
We have been wondering what (other than a Super Store) they were going to build near our train station for some time. Now a sign has gone up pointing us to www.cineplex.com. Had we been half awake we might have gone to the Cineplex site before and found this Press Release - TORONTO, January 15, 2004.

So now it will be a 5 minute drive for a movie. Colour us broke.

Why do I want to see this movie so badly? Fox Searchlight: Napoleon Dynamite
Perhaps, on some level I relate very closely with these pathetic specimins. No perhaps about it. I know it's true.

Tom Ridge to Americans: BOO!

Aug 03, 2004 by Mike Browne in Hmmmmmm | 1 Comment
Ridge defends higher terror alert as 'essential' even though some of their information pre-dates September 11, 2001. This smacks of politics all around. Why a terror alert now with this old info? Well, the Democrats had their convention last week and Kerry has gained some ground on Bush in the polls as a result. How better to distract the public than with a big bad terror warning. Anyone willing to take odds on what's going to happen? My bets are on absolutely nothing and then Bush's spin-meisters saying, "Look. We prevented an attack. Vote for Bush." This government has cried wolf so many times it's become ridiculous.

This is one case where I really hope I'm right. If I'm wrong and something really does happen I'll be surprised. But honestly I don't believe anything is going to happen. I'd rather not spend my life in fear of what may happen. Taht way the terrorists win. It is what they want.

A related site is October Surprise! What will happen before the election?

KELLOGG'S Low Carb Lifestlye

Aug 02, 2004 by Mike Browne in Hmmmmmm | 1 Comment
Since I've been eating lower carb foods I really miss my Special K. Well no longer. Now I can get cookies, waffles and low carb Special K right from Kellog's on the grocery store shelves. It should be at least another 75 years before it shows up here in Canada, but at least there's hope.

Bill O'Reilly Vs Michael Moore

Check out Bill O'Reilly Vs Michael Moore. An unedited 'interview' of Moore by the oh-so unbiased (not) Fox News in two downloadable parts. I love watching grown ups argue like little kids in the backseat of a car.

"Don't make me pull over!"
