Holy shit, Batman! I can't wait until I can see THE MACHINIST from Paramount Classics starring Christian Bale. It looks extremely creepy. Christian Bale apparently slimmed down to 120 lbs from his usual 180+ for this role. What's more amazing is that he put all the weight back on again to play the caped crusader in the upcoming Batman Begins. That's dedication to your work.

THE force was with Star Wars' R2D2 star Kenny Baker - when police nicked him for drink-driving. Kenny, 70, was spotted weaving across the road after downing two glasses of wine. The 3ft 8in actor - robot R2D2 in five Star Wars films - was yesterday given a one-year road ban and told to pay £110 fines and costs. After signing autographs outside court, he joked: "I'm on the lookout for a lady chauffeur, but I'd prefer it if she was 2ft 6in."

Kenny will give his Mercedes to his son and sell a Rolls-Royce. He added: "I did break the law, so I have to be punished."

The actor, of Ashton-on-Ribble, Lancs, was pulled over in nearby Leyland in December following a theatre rehearsal.

A blood test showed he had 92 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg.

My point for point review of Hollywood's big night:

Highlights:
Tim Robbin's flipping off Chris Rock, Charlie Kuafman's being intimidated by the 'shot clock', Sidney Lumet's acceptance speech for his Lifetime Achievement Award (What a classy dude).

Best Supporting Actor - Morgan Freeman: Hey you guys! It's the Electric Company. I liked Clive Owen.

Best Supporting Actress - Cate Blanchet: No brainer. Hollywood does so love itself.

Best Actress - Hiary Swank: Forgot the back of her dress. Another no brainer.

Best Actor - Jamie Foxx: Enough already. You're not Ray Charles. You can shut up now and go hang with Cuba Gooding in his shitty roles. See ya in Soulplane 2.

Best Director - Clint Eastwood: Yep, he gets the 'you're-ready-to-tip-over' Directing Oscar. Scorsese dissed again.

Best Picture - Million Dollar Baby: *Mike making a fish face with flapping gill action* Fished in. You all fell for it... What a sad commentary. It was good, but not that good.

Call it Kill Gil. Quentin Tarantino has signed to direct the season-finale episode of primetime's most-watched series, CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Tarantino also has come up with an original story for the episode, which is expected to shoot in early April and air May 19, according to CSI executive producer Carol Mendelsohn. Tarantino has long been a fan of the stylish forensic drama as series creator/executive producer Anthony Zuiker learned when he bumped into Tarantino at an awards show during CSI's first season. They have pursued him to direct an episode for some time, and after members of the CSI crew ran into Tarantino a few weeks ago while the show was doing some location shooting in Las Vegas, the stars finally aligned for him to helm the show's fifth-season closer, Mendelsohn said.

I don't normally watch this show, but I'll watch this one. If this is a test to see whether or not Hollywood directors will make an impact on veiwership I think the folks behind it will be pleased with the result. I love the novelty of the idea for sure. It could get a little tiring though. Imagine it being an ordinary thing to see a Scorsese directed toilet paper commercial. Would sort of take the shine off the whole turd.

Had I been born a few years earlier, there's no doubt I'd have been a beatnik, poetry aside for the weird assed dark sweaters and propensity for heavy smoking. So it's needless to say that all of the Jack Kerouac I've read I like.

I have a copy of Kerouac's "On the Road" but it waits in line with a whack of other books that I have to read. However this article about Kerouac's original manuscript got me interested again. I'd love to see the scroll but it's not touring anywhere close to here but it's going to be in Vegas from March until May so maybe there's another reason to head that way... hmmmm. Time to bump this book up on the reading ladder.

Crappy Valentines Day

Carol and I have decided that Valentines Day in the tradtional sense is far too much to bear. On both sides of the coin are people a) who expect great things from their mates on February 14 (and are often disappointed) and b) feel hugely pressured to perform. The stakes are too frickin' high. How many people have broken up with somebody around Valentines Day? The stats are high. And most likely for just these afore mentioned reasons (as part of it). Hell, it was a year ago today my sister announced her split with her husband of only two years. UGH.

As we were frsutratedly looking for someplace nice to spend too much money on Saturday for dinner and faced with hour long waits no matter where we went we had a thought. Why not buck the norm and call it Crappy Valentines Day and celebrate it as such. Dinner at a not-so-great restaurant (this year Red Robin won, but we'll go even lower next year) perhaps a really crummy asian buffet with far too much MSG for my poor head to take. After dinner we must either rent or go to a movie that's getting absolutely terrible reviews. The capper to a perfect evening would be an optional homemade card. This way we get to stick it to 'the man' and not be mindless consumers for yet another made up holiday. I like Carol everyday, not just on Valentines.

I play online games like a maniac, but I'm getting pretty tired of them. I like the people I play with, but it's just another way of isolating really. I end just hiding out with my PC all weekend. If I were to hook up with this group I'd probably get way more exercise and make some new friends. Cool! Not a big leap from playing war as a kid to Airsoft. Only difference is that the weapons are way more expensive (and far cooler) and you get shoot plastic BB's at each other. Seems more attractive to me than paintball does. Same pain with less the mess.

As there wasn't anything going on we were really concerned as to why she was so confused. She's steadily, over the last year, begun to display symptoms of Cognitive Disorder ('Senility'). The onset has been so gradual that we didn't really think anything was wrong until last night's episode. Today the vet confirmed that she probably is experiencing CDS. I feel really sad. I don't like the thought of our dog losing her mind, but it seems like a reality we have to face. There's always Prozac... *sigh* Poor Moosh.

eHomeUpgrade | CinemaNow Unveils a New Chapter in Television Viewing
I love it. Finally the entertainment industry is catching on. There's no use trying to stem the tide of technology. Bucking against what the masses really wants is doing nothing but causing them to hemorrhage cash and prompting the resentful overcharged masses to turn to downloading for free rather than paying to watch or listen. Why download a crappy version when I can get a high quality one for 1 - 3 bucks? Nice. Sites like Apple's iTunes and PureTracks are the music industry's answer to the problem, and their libraries, although no yet quite complete, are fairly comprehensive.

CinemaNow doesn't appear to have a ton of blockbusters, especially in my favourite genre of Horror, (in fact none that I can see) but there are a many I haven't seen. So if you're into obscure B-Horror like me it makes sense. Perhaps the majors will catch on and see the value of this medium. We can only pray. Right now it's a great forum for the currently unknown filmmaker suffering from a lack of marketing dollars to get his or her films out to a wide audience.

I love it that we don't have a need to pay the overhead to keep the doors of those land-based eyesore superstores open anymore. With Amazon and other online retailers we can get what we want without leaving our homes. Nothing like shopping in my drawers. Of course on a dare I might go out that way too. ;)

I would love to go to the 2005 Coachella Valley Music Festival. Looks at all of those bands! Holy shitballs Batman. We've seen Weezer before and they were great. But some of the other headliners and undercards are bands I've wated to see for a long time. Especially Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus, Keane, Chemical Brothers, New Order, The Prodigy, Doves and Cocteau Twins to name a few.

"American soldiers of the 2/3 Field Artillery, a group known as the "Gunners," tell of their experiences in Baghdad during the Iraq War. Holed up in a bombed out pleasure palace built by Sadaam Hussein, the soldiers endured hostile situations some four months after President George W. Bush declared the end of major combat operations in the country."

It looks interesting to say the least. I must see it. There's even a blog that was written during production. I wonder, however who's paying for this? Is it a middle of the road look or are their leanings (and pocket linings) from either the hawks or the doves? I guess we'll see when we see it.

I'm enjoying documentary more an more. Gone are the days of grass growing and hours of paint drying on PBS hosted by Jiminy Crickett and Smokey the Bear. Thank God.

We got brand new Aeron Chairs for everyone in our department. At $1100+ each they are the nicest office chair I've ever sat in. We didn't mess around and went all out for the full lumbar support a.k.a. PostureFit model. It even smells like a new car. My back is already way happier. Thanks Riptown! It's nice to work for a company that's doing okay.

I just got this email from Blockbuster.ca:

This appears cool, but it doesn't get me the money I've already spent with them for being an hour or two late returning really crappy movies. I'll be really happy if they retroactively return them. LOL! And pigs are about to fly out of my backside. Also, this looks like they're actually only giving a couple of extra days prior to charging you with the extire cost of the movie and, as people I know in the US have suffered, if you attempt to return the movie after the alloted time when you have been charged for the cost of the flick, you are charged a 'restocking fee' of $1.50. It will probably be $3.00 bucks here in Canada. Nice try Blockbuster, but no thanks.

Great news - not. I can't even get a consultation for the dental surgeon I've been referred to until March 29th. Yes, that's right, two months from now. Jeebus H Cripes! They've put me on the 'cancellation list' but there's no guarantee I'll get in prior to the end of March. Holy shit! That sucks a large portion of my ass. To deal with the chronic pain of my impacted teeth (as I can't take narcotics) I guess I'll just pound the Extra Strength Tylenol until my liver shuts down or I go nuts and put a heavy claw hammer and chisel to my own jaw to relieve the ache. Anyone know a dental surgeon? *sigh*
