Ric Downey
Our friend Ric Downey passed away this morning around 1:20 am. He was 61 years old.
Above is photo of him in happier times. Ric touched the lives of many people in a positive way, both publicly and privately. He was a well loved and highly respected member of his community and will be missed by all who truly knew him. His stories and wit were legendary. I for one will miss our talks. You could tell Ric anything. I am lucky and grateful to have had Ric as a close friend and mentor. Goodbye my friend.

When I came to the program, they directed me to the middle. With a degree of hesitancy, I eventually arrived there only to find the likes of RIc waiting for me, willing to show me the way. Everything I have today is as a result of learning to be open minded and follow those with direction to better living. Ric was always at the front of that line and will always be in the middle of the program. Seek a better life - and you will find examples of Ric D in abundance. Good bye my dear friend. I will always love you and be in your debt.

I am thousands of miles away here in the lower 48, never met Ric Downey, don't know any of you. Yet, I find myself drying my eyes after reading this post. The unassuming and comforting look of his face in that photo gives me the impression that he was a rock of strength and a shoulder to lean on when needed.
Indeed, the comments here bear that out. I have several "Ric Downeys" in my life and am all the better for it.
I'm sorry for your loss.
