Cowan scores in 2 OT

Apr 28, 2007 by Mike Browne in Go Canucks Go | 1 Comment
Ya-freakin' hoo! Cowan the Brabarian scores two goals in two games and this one's the game winner in 2nd OT! After an abysmal performance on Wednesday night the the Canucks come back with lots of heart to win game two against the awesome Anaheim Ducks. The series now comes back to Vancouver and GM Place with the series knotted at one goal each. Sunday ought to be a doozy!

Trevor Linden sure is the man in the playoffs. What a great pass...

Canucks win round one

I'm not sure why I haven't been blogging the play-offs. Perhaps I was just afraid to get my hopes up. Anyway, the Canucks are through round one with the help of a game winning / series clinching goal by Mr. Game 7, Trevor Linden.

In a series that saw stellar goaltending at both ends of the rink it seemed it was anyone's series, may be even leaning toward Dallas after the Canucks blew a 3 - 1 series lead as Dallas forced a game 7 with the amazing Marty Turco's 3rd shutout win of the series in game 6.

The first period looked shaky, but the Canucks came on stronger and stronger as the game went on taking it to the Stars. Roberto Luongo made an unbelievable save in the 3rd period to keep the Canucks ahead by one goal. In a last ditch effort during the last minute Dallas pulled Marty Turco for the extra attacker, but it was for naught. Taylor Pyatt and Brian Smolinski scored empty net goals allowing the Canucks a 4 - 1 in regulation win.

Congratulations Canucks! Good luck in Anaheim on Wednesday. They're goin' duck huntin'!

Looks like the Believe in Blue shirt that Carol picked up for me the other day works. Must keep it clean throughout the next series so I can wear it for every game.

Believe in Blue

Apr 10, 2007 by Mike Browne in Go Canucks Go | 1 Comment
Tomorrow's the big day. Yep, it's the beginning if the NHL's Stanley Cup Playoffs. It's the best darned tournament in sports and we here in Vancouver get to have our team in it this year. After a rocky start to the season the Canucks kicked some serious ass after Christmas finishing the season on top of their division with home-ice advantage in the first round! I believe in blue. Do you?

GO CANUCKS GO!

Canucks fans are encouraged to 'Believe in Blue' and wear blue to all Canucks playoff games. Authentix, the Official Team Store of the Vancouver Canucks is the only place to get your official 2006.07 Canucks 'Believe in Blue' playoff merchandise!

Swedish Twins

Watch the canucks.com exclusive debut of the Sedin Twins' new "Just Like Us" NHL commercial. Shot last week at the Sutton Place Hotel by director Scott Weinstock, the new ad features Daniel and Henrik dancing at a bachelor party.

Cool ad even Paulie the Leafs fan would like I think. Until the ad is up on YouTube (I could do it but I won't) here's a little something with a whole lot of not safe for work language obviously done by a couple of Canucks fans bashing away at Edmonton Coilers star Ryan Smith:

Bublé is a Canucks fan

Jan 30, 2007 by Mike Browne in Go Canucks Go | 2 Comments
Canadian crooner Michael Bublé is nominated for a Grammy Award for best traditional pop vocal album, but plans to stay home and watch the Vancouver Canucks play on the night of the awards ceremony.

The Vancouver artist, competing for the award with fellow Canadian Sarah McLachlan, said he's boycotting the Feb. 11 event in Los Angeles because his category will not be presented live on TV...

More at CBC.ca Arts - Bublé plans to give up Grammys for hockey game

Good for you Michael Bublé: 'Gimme the award live or I'm staying home to watch the Canucks.' In fact you can come over here to watch if you like.

Nice!

Thanks Roberto

More proof that Luongo rocks! He seems to be a modest hard working guy who loves his job. Nice!

Tonight's score 3-1 Canucks over the Sharks. All due to Roberto's play during the 1st and 2nd periods when the rest of the team was still at home. He gave them the chance to win it and they did. Nice to have a goalie who can steal a game or two. Unlike he who shall not be named, not because he's evil, just because he stinks.

3 Down

Jan 18, 2007 by Mike Browne in Go Canucks Go | 3 Comments

The picture pretty much sums up the road trip thus far. The smug looking jackass 'thumbs down' chick actually makes the whole picture. I'm sure what my creative mind sees isn't what she intended at all. Ptooi on the Sens.

Three eastern Canadian teams up, and three down. Leafs, Canadians and Senators all beaten by the Canucks. Luongo has let in only 2 goals in the last 101 shots! Go Bobby Lou!

The coolest thing about watching this road trip so far is being able to hear Canucks fans chanting "Go Canucks Go!" in every building. How friggin' cool is that?

Next up, Buffalo on pay-per-view tomorrow night. I doubt they'll hear much friendly chanting there. Even though the new logo looks like the banana slugs we find hiking here in beautiful Lynn Canyon Buffalo is an awesome team.

After the hard fought win tonight I'm not too sure what kind of gas the Canucks will have in the tank to be honest. The Sabres have had a day off and you can be sure they'll come to play (lookin' all sluggy). Vancouver could win, after all the Canucks are on a fairly decent roll so why not?

To celebrate these wins here's a little ditty by a guy who wants to make love to Vancouver Canucks. Kind of creepy but click play anyway:

Canucks win 7 in a row

Jan 08, 2007 by Mike Browne in Go Canucks Go | 1 Comment
Luongo rocks!

I knew they could do it.

After winning a shoot out thriller last night the Canucks have won 7 games in a row. Outstanding considering their less than stellar start to the season. One cannot help but think that the Canucks amazing new star goaltender (pictured above) has just a little something to do with it.

I used to feel extremely uncomfortable with the fragile Dan Cloutier in net, but not so with Luongo. So, while ol' Danny boy is stinkin' it up in LA this year with the worst goals against average in the league as of this writing, we get to enjoy some solid net minding.

Watching Luongo play is a real treat.

In other Canucks news:

A look of real relief

How does Nazzy spell relief? G-O-A-L!

Canucks captain, Markus Naslund, bumped his slump last night with a well earned goal as well. Thank the hockey gods for this one. He was looking mighty dejected although he never really gave up getting plenty of assists during his drought. Hopefully he'll be scoring like a maniac for the rest of the season. Markus

I started up a Canucks only blog right here: A Canucks Fan. Hopefully, I'll have lots to post about well into June if you get my drift. So, unless the Canucks win the Stanley Cup I won't be posting much about them here any more. There will be hockey posts once in a while. Go Canucks Go!

Canucks 4 - Oilers 3 in Shoot Out!

Mar 23, 2006 by Mike Browne in Go Canucks Go | 5 Comments

Mark Messier always gave me the creeps. The picture kind of says it all... At least they're happy about the 'nucks win tonight.

That's two in a row in this triple header against the Oilers. Saturday night on CBC is the next game. Go Canucks go!

The Canucks beat Edmonton 4 -1

Mar 22, 2006 by Mike Browne in Go Canucks Go | 1 Comment
Hooray! What a game. Finally the team showed up. I had been holding my breath and posts until after this game, in fact for the entire season. Now I can breathe a little, at least until tomorrow night when they play the Oilers again (and then again on Saturday). Now the Canucks are in 7th place rather than 9th and out of the playoffs. Hopefully that game is an omen of good things to come. Trevor "the Drought" Linden even scored. Regardless of that, he's still one of my favourie players on the team

They got home rather quickly too. I saw Keith Carney and Eric Weinrich standing outside of Cin Cin looking at the menu this afternoon. I guess rental D-men get paid okay as I didn't see them slink into The Cactus Club where I was hangin' with Vince.
