Started reading JRR Tolkien's, Fellowship of the Ring again before the film comes out later this year. I read it a long time ago and, frankly, don't remember it at all. Perhaps, that was during one of my less lucid periods. I think it was. I fully recall reading The Hobbit, but that's where the recognition ends. Oh well, I'm really enjoying it anyway.
There are some great JRR Tolkien and Lord of the Rings websites out there. Some of them are:
— Tolkien Online aka One Ring. Scads of info!
— Tolkien Enterprises - Owns and licenses use of copyrightable names, images, and elements of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
— LordoftheRings.net - Official site from New Line featuring news, trailers, and more.
— Hobbit Name Genrator - Very cool. Try it out! Mike Browne = Ferdirand Chubb.
— Planet Tolkien - Movie news and rumors, as well as Middle Earth and character histories, photographs, chat, and more.
I think that I'll read the all three volumes this year, so I'm not in a rush to read them as the films come out. Perhaps the movies will be the only exposure some people have to this amazing collection of work. Try the books first. Start with The Hobbit, then the first volume in The Lord of the Rings is The Fellowship of the Ring, second The Two Towers and third is The Return of the King. Enjoy!
