Oh Canada: swap the music all you want
"Making files available in online, shared directories is within the bounds of Canadian copyright law"
Hooray! Metallica still sucks. Napster.ca has a nice ring to it!
Apparently file sharing isn't a threat to record sales anyway. What's all the fuss about? Some fat cat music exec may not be able to afford a gold plated toilet seat.

They produce it as part of their work.
They sell it to get payed for their work.
Stealing their work is not the way to deal with the middle man record execs. Stop doing it.

Just because it's the law doesn't make it right. The Canadian justice system proves that time and time again.

In all honesty, the first half of your proposal is an excellent (and very Canadian) philosophy that I support, as far as choice goes. Circumstances don't allow me to personally subscribe to it however. As for the Floyd - already have it. Liner notes and all.

I'm aware of what Karma says, DonnieMac. That's why I said let Karma decide. Let's face it - I'm the only one on my side with this and I'm totally aware of it and don't mind. It's artists like Dave Mathews Band, Phish and even the Greatful Dead that encourage this and that's fine. It's their product to say that. I would download their music based on that and only that - permission from the artist. Their product is not for me to hand off to millions when they're trying to make a buck despite how many millions of bucks they've already made. Personally, I enjoy the entire package that makes up a CD. I read liner notes, I look for artists appearing, read where it was produced, look for who did the album art and most of all get right into the lyrics. I was a record collector for many years and to me it's more than just the music. If the artist says go for it - then do so. Nevermind the execs. They're the ones who've made radio into the sorry assed medium that it is today. I have no time for them. Yeah, perhaps I should lighten up (minus the phatty, of course LIOLI). It is free advertising for the artist and may help generate listenership to songs that the radio music directors are forced to avoid due to record execs programming their stations but I also have my principles to adhere to. If it's not mine, it's not mine to give away nor is it mine to take. Now if you'll excuse me, there's a new Southern Culture On The Skids CD that I'll be taking a chance on and a sales clerk to chat with. 'Til then.
PS Hey DonnieMac. Your submissions would hold a lot more water if your spelling mistakes were located in the Maximum Extreme Challenge quotes rather than your Dylan quotes. ;)

Alas grammer seams to be dwarfted by your limited ability to comprehend.
So with out sounding to didactic the point you missed out right is "KARMA HAS DECIDED!"
The rest of your post is fallacy.
You were a record collecter ? Does this mean you sold your records ? Did you pay the royalites off money you made ? If you lent one of your records out ? Did you pay ? Had a party and played them to friends ? Did you pay ? Even if you gave them away money was lost . Did you pay the copyright holder ? No? Bad Bad Bad!
My point being here is that these would be held as unreasonable demands by a copyright holder , just as Judge Von Fickinstien deturmined that P2P networks are about as much as an infrigment as a photocopier is in a libairy.
I would Love to go on but it just far to sunny and nice to stay inside , I would love to carry on this Idea later.

There might be 8 million starving bands out there, but the ones who are being ripped on the net for the most part don't seem to lack in coke habits, so I say 'the Hell with them!
If I manage to "steal" every song that I've had to unwrap from around the heads and mechanism of my expensive tape decks because they put it out on a tape that was designed to self-destruct, it'll be a miracle.
I've gone from trying to replace the songs I've paid for and lost through the years to buying 40 Gig drives to hold everything I find just to screw those gomers because it gives me a woody just doing it. When CD's cost 5 bucks, I'll start buying them again. Until then, f**k em and feed em fish heads.

I personally know members of a number of smaller bands who fully support file sharing. Were it not for peer to peer and other ways of geting their tunes out there they would never have the chance to be heard.
The real money for a true artist is made in touring anyway. Artists don't really see much of the money that comes from CD sales at all. I'll spend my money on a live show and on a CD I've listened to an enjoy.
Contrary to some people's thinking, there are music downloaders, like myself, who actually BUY CD's of bands we like.
I used to like Metallica, but they suck now. Funny how they blamed their lagging sales on Napster... Have you listened to the people really doing the whining? They don't want people to hear it first because if they do they won't buy it because it's garbage.
