Kick Axe On The Road To Rock

In 1984 Pasha/CBS released the Kick Axe Album Vices. Along with this release the Video On The Road to Rock was released to the Television stations in North America.

For more information about this band from Canada please visit kickaxe.net

The sound assist on the show I’m working on, George Criston, was the lead singer of Kick Axe during the mid 80’s when they toured with The Scorpions, Quiet Riot and Judas Priest for the Defenders of the Faith tour. I had all their albums. Now I get to hang with George every day. Cool!

Nimoy sings about Bilbo Baggins

Leonard Nimoy with his shitty Spock hairdo in the 60’s singing about Bilbo Baggins. My nerdometer is pinned at super-ultra-giga-nerd. I can’t think of anything nerdier. If you can please send it an I’ll post it.

Thanks to Tracey Mac for the tip on this travesty.

Carol is going away

Tomorrow morning I have to get up and drive Carol to the airport. She’s going away until Monday. As well as attending a Soroptimist conference she’ll get to see her grandma and aunt Susan. I’ll be living off cereal, fast food and KD (if I feel like cooking). Where is she going?

Saskatoon? Yikes. The flatlands.

Here’s a little tune from one of our favourite movies, Slapshot, to help put Carol in the right frame of mind to make the trip. It’s Sonny James with “A Little Bit South of Saskatoon”:

Speaking of Slaphot here’s one of my favourite shots and a quote from the flick:

I’m listening to the f%$king song!

Audio Player: Foobar 2000

A new category… Cool Free Software. The first entry will be my audio player of choice:

It’s called Foobar 2000. If you’re looking for pretty skins and flashy visual plugins you should go elsewhere. Foobar 2000 is all about function:

Foobar2000 is an advanced audio player for the Windows platform. Some of the basic features include full unicode support, ReplayGain support and native support for several popular audio formats.

Features

  • Audio formats supported: MP1, MP2, MP3, MP4, MPC, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC / Ogg FLAC, WavPack, WAV, AIFF, AU, SND, CDDA, WMA.
  • Full unicode support.
  • Advanced tagging capabilities.
  • Support for transcoding all supported audio formats using the Converter component (requires external commandline encoder executables for different output formats).
  • ReplayGain support – both playback and calculation.
  • Customizable keyboard shortcuts.
  • Open component architecture allowing third-party developers to extend functionality of the player.

I can listen to MP3’s on my hard drive and rip more CD’s to popular formats at the same time. I don’t have to do one or the other. It’s that powerful.

One plugin I personally utilise is the XM Online (foo_xm). It allows me to listen to Opie and Anthony without having to use the horrendous Windows Media Player based version at the XMradio site. You still need an XM subscription, but the freedom of having a decent player with which to listen is welcome.

There’s also a plugin for audioscrobbler (foo_audioscrobbler)so you can keep track of your listening tastes at last.fm. Here’s my user profile on the site so you can have a look at the crap I listen to.

Cowan scores in 2 OT

Ya-freakin’ hoo! Cowan the Brabarian scores two goals in two games and this one’s the game winner in 2nd OT! After an abysmal performance on Wednesday night the the Canucks come back with lots of heart to win game two against the awesome Anaheim Ducks. The series now comes back to Vancouver and GM Place with the series knotted at one goal each. Sunday ought to be a doozy!

Trevor Linden sure is the man in the playoffs. What a great pass…
