Google Maps

Check out Google Maps. They’ve teamed with MapQuest and made another really cool tool for us nerds to use in our ever increasing quest to have everything we need online.

The pendulum’s swing…

People are complaining to the FCC about Sunday’s Superbowl Halftime show being boring. Now that’s funny stuff.

Downloading TV…

eHomeUpgrade | CinemaNow Unveils a New Chapter in Television Viewing
I love it. Finally the entertainment industry is catching on. There’s no use trying to stem the tide of technology. Bucking against what the masses really wants is doing nothing but causing them to hemorrhage cash and prompting the resentful overcharged masses to turn to downloading for free rather than paying to watch or listen. Why download a crappy version when I can get a high quality one for 1 – 3 bucks? Nice. Sites like Apple’s iTunes and PureTracks are the music industry’s answer to the problem, and their libraries, although no yet quite complete, are fairly comprehensive.

CinemaNow doesn’t appear to have a ton of blockbusters, especially in my favourite genre of Horror, (in fact none that I can see) but there are a many I haven’t seen. So if you’re into obscure B-Horror like me it makes sense. Perhaps the majors will catch on and see the value of this medium. We can only pray. Right now it’s a great forum for the currently unknown filmmaker suffering from a lack of marketing dollars to get his or her films out to a wide audience.

I love it that we don’t have a need to pay the overhead to keep the doors of those land-based eyesore superstores open anymore. With Amazon and other online retailers we can get what we want without leaving our homes. Nothing like shopping in my drawers. Of course on a dare I might go out that way too. 😉

Coachella

I would love to go to the 2005 Coachella Valley Music Festival. Looks at all of those bands! Holy shitballs Batman. We’ve seen Weezer before and they were great. But some of the other headliners and undercards are bands I’ve wated to see for a long time. Especially Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus, Keane, Chemical Brothers, New Order, The Prodigy, Doves and Cocteau Twins to name a few.

Gunner Palace

GUNNER PALACE | Some war stories will never make the nightly news. This is one of them.

Thanks Scar for the heads up on this one.

Plot outline (according to IMDb Pro)
“American soldiers of the 2/3 Field Artillery, a group known as the “Gunners,” tell of their experiences in Baghdad during the Iraq War. Holed up in a bombed out pleasure palace built by Sadaam Hussein, the soldiers endured hostile situations some four months after President George W. Bush declared the end of major combat operations in the country.”

It looks interesting to say the least. I must see it. There’s even a blog that was written during production. I wonder, however who’s paying for this? Is it a middle of the road look or are their leanings (and pocket linings) from either the hawks or the doves? I guess we’ll see when we see it.

I’m enjoying documentary more an more. Gone are the days of grass growing and hours of paint drying on PBS hosted by Jiminy Crickett and Smokey the Bear. Thank God.

More on this from Blogcritics.
