Meeting Dianne

by Mike Browne on August 20, 2005

in adoption

I spent the day with Dianne, my birth mother, yesterday. Above is the first picture of us together after 36 years.

We had a pleasant day ‘catching up’ on 36 years of what’s happening and I enjoyed looking at her family photos. We met her co-workers (more like family and friends if you ask me), went to New Minas, a.k.a. New Mindless, to get birthday cakes for upcoming events and then watched Boondock Saints (she loves movies as much as I do) and just talked and talked. I couldn’t have asked for a better day. She gave me the photo a friend of hers sneakily took of me in the hospital just days old, my hospital bracelet, a copy of the ‘letter of apprehension’ from my adoption and the letter given her by the social worker once I had been placed with Mom and Dad.

More after the jump. —->

Dianne’s co-workers turned out to be such nice women and very excited for Dianne and I. Thanks for making me feel so welcome.

Here’s Dianne and I in front of the big apple on the lawn of the town hall in Berwick where Dianne works.

So far so good. BBQ here in Bridgewater today at the Browne estate. More pictures to follow.

Well, we can see where you get your good looks from eh. I couldn’t be more thrilled for you Mike, I’m sure this was a test of every emotion you could have felt. Thank god for all the years of personal growth you’ve had to make it possible for you to meet her without prejudice. Have you cried enough yet???

Hi Mike – I’m an adoptee that found your blog at random…coincidentally, I happily reunited with my birthmom last month and my 36th birthday is around the corner. Heartiest congratulations to both of you…isn’t this the most amazing feeling in the world?? Enjoy it, and here’s to a new beginning.

It’s so hard for someone outside of the two of you to know what you must be going through – it must be somewhat like a fantastic voyage through a wormhole, into which an alternate reality suddenly reveals itself. Many questions answered but then so many more questions appear. Wonderful to see the photo, and look forward to seeing you upon your return. Very cool indeed.

I had no idea you were adopted Mikey. So was I and was also reunited with my birthmother after a 5 year search. We’ve been cloes for the past 6 years or so and, in fact, I’m off to Fort McMurray to spend Christmas with my birthmother, her husband and my 4 half siblings. What a trip being able to relate to a true blood relative, isn’t it? Feelings only adopted children can understand. All the best to you and your new found relatives Mike!
