A Canucks Fan

by Mike Browne on March 29, 2006

in hockey

I started up a Canucks only blog right here: A Canucks Fan. Hopefully, I’ll have lots to post about well into June if you get my drift. So, unless the Canucks win the Stanley Cup I won’t be posting much about them here any more. There will be hockey posts once in a while. Go Canucks Go!

Canucks 4 – Oilers 3 in Shoot Out!

by Mike Browne on March 23, 2006

in hockey

Mark Messier always gave me the creeps. The picture kind of says it all… At least they’re happy about the ‘nucks win tonight.

That’s two in a row in this triple header against the Oilers. Saturday night on CBC is the next game. Go Canucks go!

The Canucks beat Edmonton 4 -1

by Mike Browne on March 22, 2006

in hockey

Hooray! What a game. Finally the team showed up. I had been holding my breath and posts until after this game, in fact for the entire season. Now I can breathe a little, at least until tomorrow night when they play the Oilers again (and then again on Saturday). Now the Canucks are in 7th place rather than 9th and out of the playoffs. Hopefully that game is an omen of good things to come. Trevor “the Drought” Linden even scored. Regardless of that, he’s still one of my favourie players on the team

They got home rather quickly too. I saw Keith Carney and Eric Weinrich standing outside of Cin Cin looking at the menu this afternoon. I guess rental D-men get paid okay as I didn’t see them slink into The Cactus Club where I was hangin’ with Vince.

Punch-up in Piestany

This is the bench clearing brawl between Canada and Russia during the World Junior tournament in 1987:

Lest we forget… how embarrassing. And right in the middle of it all? Theoren Fluery. Always one to stir up trouble and he’s still at it. More here.

What a game!

by Mike Browne on January 6, 2006

in hockey

I am so grateful that I got to watch the game and be a part of the crowd! Holy crapola! Team Canada, the underdogs, blanked the Russians and their scoring superstar Evgeni Malkin. I’ve never seen such a display of team play in my life. These boys, under the coaching genius of Brent Sutter, did a fantastic job and never said die. Congratulations guys, you deserve this win and the gold!

There are pictures and some video after the jump.

One, count ‘em, one, ticket for the gold medal game. Hooray for Craigslist! There will be photos and some video. Oh hell yeah! Section 325, row 14, seat 110… otherwise known as the nosebleeds, but I’ll be there! Yeehaw!

Go Canada Go!

by Mike Browne on January 4, 2006

in hockey

I'm ready for the gold medal game of the IIHF World Junior Hockey Tourney tomorrow. I'll be clad properly for cheering as I bought the team jersey in stylish red today:

I would love to get to the game, but its sold out. Pauly is going with his press pass as he's announcing the relegation games at the Coliseum (bastid!) and might be able to swing us tickets in a longshot, but he doubts it. Hey Pauly if you want to eat and sleep inside for the three nights after the tournament you'd better come through. ;)

Oh please! Santa God please! We want to go to the game and sit near the home team's bench close to the redline! (hey its doesn't hurt to ask).

Regardless of whether we go or not I'll enjoy the game watching in style in our new home on a new 52" Toshiba widescreen TV in HD thanks to our new Shaw HD+PVR Digital Terminal which I will also be recording the game on to watch again and again.

Whether or not Canada wins we're proud of them. They fought hard to get to the gold medal game and are unbeaten in this year's tournament (and last). Win or lose, we know they'll be great ambassadors for the sport and our country's love of it, unlike that other team we saw last night losing to the Russians. Poor sportsmanship is disgusting.

I think I'll go watch the Canada / Finland game again. Its on right now.

Go Canada Go!

Cloutier out for 4 months

Torn ACL sidelines Cloutier for 4 months
No “number one” (and I type that very reluctantly) for at least four months as Dan Cloutier tore an ACL and required surgery.

In other news Cloutier got a concussion answering his cell phone. The Waaaahmbulance was called. What a wuss!

Please Santa, bring us a real goalie for Xmas.

Understanding Leafs fans

by Mike Browne on October 25, 2005

in hockey

Pauly sent me the above photo. Yes, I laughed. Well done. It helps me better understand the true passion of these loud people in the blue and white jerseys. I too think the kid in the Canadiens (not a misspelling just francaise – ugh) should have to sit alone. However, the rest of the children should all be given Canucks jerseys to assist them in cheering for a ‘good’ Canadian hockey team. Hah!

Leafs SUCK!

GO CANUCKS GO!
