St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 1749 Argyle St., Halifax
While staff insist that St. Paul’s is not haunted, the church continues to draw the curious, anxious to get a glimpse of a haunting sight.
On Dec. 6, 1917, when the French ship Mont Blanc exploded in Halifax Harbour, thousands of windows shattered throughout the city, including a pane of glass on the upper floor of St. Paul’s. It is said that the broken glass resembles the profile of Charles Inglis, a priest at the church in the 1800s.
“You can see his nose and the back of his head. It looks like he’s wearing a funny hat,” said Karen Harris, parish administrator.
Some say a man was blasted through the glass during the explosion, and that it’s his dark silhouette that appears in the glass. According to Harris, that’s just a ghost story…
