Work has really taken it out of me. I’ve been so into it I’d lost all desire to blog. My posting had been tapering off until last month I’d just had it. Ending on a post about a movie focused on people leaping from the Golden Gate Bridge doesn’t look so good.
I’m okay. No bridges for me… I’m scared of heights anyway. 🙂
I’m taking another look at the direction I’m headed career wise. I still want to be involved in the movie business, but the whole DGC thing is looking less and less attractive as time goes on. I’m not sure I want to be a professional PA for the years it takes to climb the ladder toward either Production Manager or First Assistant director. I am 37 years old after all. The hours suck, the pay isn’t so great and physically I’m bagged. Basically all I see in that direction is dealing with logistics and not a hell of a lot of room for creativity which is why I wanted to be in the business in the first place.
Props and the rest of the art department is looking attractive. I still get to be on set and involved and have a more creative say in what things look like. I have to get my PAL (that’s firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence) so I can buy, rent and handle the weapons for films. I like playing with guns so that could be fun.
On the last movie, Loch Ness (A horror movie about the Loch Ness monster eating teens in Lake Superior), I got to stand in on set for the props department when they were busy and help make sure actors had what they needed for a scene. Kind of fun handing off “pills” and a glass of water on cue.
Anyway, I’m back to blogging. I doubt anyone but Carol and maybe the folks in NS will read this, but I’m here.
