Play it…

This guy is a fixture down by the old Royal Bank building on Granville Street in Vancouver. I’ve seen him playing his harmonica and stomping his foot there for years. He plays his heart out when people are walking up to him and as soon as they pass, with a ‘Hey! How ya doin’? Hey!’ he stops playing unless you’ve put change in his box. A friend of mine does a great impression of him. I often wonder what his story is. There are other people I see regularly on the street in Vancouver who I wonder the same things about. I have definitely been one to judge a book by it’s cover, making assumptions about someone just because they’re playing a harmonica in the street. Lately, however, i’m thinking more about what the truth is. Perhaps there’s a documentary there. I know they’ve done some on the East End of Vancouver and the drug problem there, but have any been done on the regulars we Vancouverites see on our daily commutes? If you know of any please give me the heads up. I’d love to learn more.
