Texas Chainsaw Massacre – Review

Carol and I went with friends to see the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie this weekend.

It’s being a remake of what I thought to be a truly great film gave me some prejudice going in. Also, the fact that Michael Bay (responsible for film attrocities such as Pearl Harbour and the Bad Boys series) produced it gave us pause prior to spending our hard earned movie bucks.

But lately I’ve found that expecting little or nothing from a film usually pays off huge. This is one of those times I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

Some critics, Roger Ebert for one, panned the film. He refused to give it even one star saying it was “vile, ugly and brutal“. And your point? After reading his reviews of late I am convinced that Ebert actually means: Fat idiot who doesn’t like horror movies.

But there were others like my beloved CHUD (who gave it an 8.75 out of 10). Thank God someone was paying attention.

We loved it. In fact I jumped out of my seat more than once and was vibrating when we left the theatre. Being horror movie fans, Carol and I give this film two big thumbs up! If you’re not a horror fan or expect Hitchcock, spend your money elsewhere.

If you don’t like it, you didn’t get it. It’s not Gone With the Wind, nor does it claim to be. It’s a horror movie and should be viewed as one.

Shame Roger, shame! What a moron. Here’s proof.
