The book list

The 100 greatest novels of all time

I’ve read a good majority of these and will probably read the one’s I haven’t. Although my top five favourites to this point would look a little different (some aren’t even on the Observer’s booklist):

5. Metamorphosis – by Franz Kafka

4. Lés Miserables – by Victor Hugo

3. L’Etranger aka The Outsider – by Albert Camus

2. Catcher in the Rye – by J.D. Salinger

1. Crime and Punishment – By Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Looking at my list of favourites I see the themes of existentialism, alienantion, loneliness and personal conflict in the books I’ve chosen. I’ve spent much of my life feeling as the characters in these books. I guess it’s true that what moves a person says a lot about them.
